Grazing for Water Management
January 21st, 2022

Agricultural producers who move fence and livestock daily or every few days during the growing season have talked about the benefits of adaptive multi-paddock (AMP) grazing, sometimes called rotational grazing, for soil health, plant diversity and their livestock for quite some time now.  But did you know that AMP grazing can also improve water infiltration in your soil?  With dry conditions affecting pastures across Alberta, this practice could help build resiliency in your pastures and livestock during times of drought.

Dr. Timm Doebert of the University of Alberta was part of a research team that studied over 50 ranches in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and found that ranches practicing AMP grazing had better water infiltration in their pastures than ranches that were not AMP grazers. In our webinar, Timm will go over the findings of his study in more detail and answer any questions that you have about AMP grazing and water infiltration.

If you are an agricultural producer who is thinking about changing how you manage your cattle, this webinar may be for you, especially if you are aiming to keep as much moisture as possible on your land.
